| A avaliação da viabilidade do neonato e detecção precoce do sofrimento fetal contribui para a redução da natimortalidade em cães. Os achados clínicos e os resultados dos exames laboratoriais ao nascimento refletem os eventos fisiológicos mais recentes da transição fetal-neonatal, além de possibilitarem a identificação dos neonatos que necessitam de intervenção médica rápida. Foram avaliados 49 neonatos oriundos de parto eutócico e 55 de cesariana, analisando-se escore de Apgar, reflexos de procura, endireitamento e sucção; temperatura e peso ao nascimento e aos 60 minutos. | With the increasing use of artificial insemination techniques, little importance has been given to seminal plasma, since it is substituted by other diluters. However, natural sexual intercourse would not work without seminal plasma as diluter for spermatozoa in the epididimus. The study of seminal plasma brings important information for the research on diluters, which are made to substitute the forme. Thus, if the seminal plasma composition were known, it would be easier to preserve semen samples, specially those of species that present cryopreservation problems. Beside, knowledge on "fertility markers" that may be present in seminal plasma would be of great importance in the identification of animals of high reproductive value. |

| Twenty-seven ejaculates of an adult, mixed breed, medium size dog were used in this study. The semen was collected by penile stimulation and divided into three equal samples. Group I (G I): cooled without extender; Group 2 (G2): diluted with skimmed milk-based extender; Group 3 (G3): diluted with glycine egg yolk-based extender, without glycerol. Samples were evaluated after collection (MO) as to sperm motility and vigor, and integrity of sperm membranes, and then incubated at 50 C.
